Shy FX

Shy FX is one of the most influential figures in jungle and drum & bass. Born Andre Williams in London, he played a crucial role in bringing the genre from underground raves to wider recognition while keeping its original spirit intact. As the grandson of Jamaican sound system pioneer Count Shelly, his music naturally blends fast breakbeats with reggae and dancehall influences. His breakthrough came with the 1994 anthem Original Nuttah alongside UK Apache, one of jungle’s first UK Top 40 hits and still a defining track of the genre. Since then, Shy FX has remained a respected producer, delivering classics like “Bambaata” while launching influential labels including Digital Soundboy and Ebony Dubsters. Across three decades, he has collaborated with artists ranging from Ms. Dynamite to Jorja Smith, continually evolving his sound while staying rooted in the reggae-infused energy that first defined jungle culture.
